Vein ID meets unattended retail
FinGoVend combined identity, age checks and payment in a vending prototype.
FinGo announced FinGoVend as a vending prototype using finger-vein recognition to connect a shopper with their registered identity and payment account. The intended application included age-restricted products: a scan could establish eligibility as well as authorise a purchase.
The prototype was presented at Vendex Midlands on 26 April 2022. Vagabond Wines and First Chop were the first drinks brands named in the announcement. FinGo worked with RBC Group on the automated retail product.
The company described opportunities for brands to reach customers through additional sales points and for hospitality operators to offer unattended purchases. The announcement positioned the prototype as an extension of FinGo’s work on payments and age verification, including the Home Office trials. It is a record of the 2022 launch.
