Background

Nets met FinGoPay in 2017 and were keen to trial their biometric solution. Copenhagen Business School (CBS) shared their passion for  new technology and were recommended by Dankort, Denmark’s national debit card, as a pilot customer. After three months of development, integration and testing, in April 2018 FinGoPay launched in the Spisestuerne self-serve canteen on the CBS campus.

Students signed up at FinGoPay kiosks, where they could create an account, add their Dankort payment card, and link their finger. Once set up, they could then pay for food with their finger at any of the 13 payment tills.

Results

There was a terrific reaction from students, with 97% having a positive or very positive experience, and 83% who found registration EASY or VERY EASY. Convenience (85%) and Innovation (77%) were key drivers for adoption*. At the end of the trial period:

  • 1,000+ registered users
  • 25,000+ payments
  • 86% paid more than once
  • 58% used 10 times or more
  • 44% used 20 times or more
  • 10% of Dankort transactions on campus

Conclusion

The platform was subsequently upgraded to offer more features and functionality. In particular, the companies wanted to offer a fully self-sign up process at the payment tills. This would offer students the opportunity to sign up to FinGoPay at each of the 23 payment tills, rather than at the four FinGoPay kiosks.

FinGoPay relaunched in September 2019, with

  • A new platform developed exclusively for CBS students
  • International cards (Visa and Mastercard) accepted, as well as Dankort
  • A simpler and easier sign up process, making
  • Fully self-sign up process easier than before
